You must apply the teeth whitening gel properly to minimize side effects and wasting gel.
- Before Treatment:
Brush and floss before whitening your teeth. The whitening gel is most effective on clean teeth. Make sure the trays are clean and dry before applying the gel. Moisture reduces the efficiency of the whitening gel reducing the whitening process.
- Applying the Whitening Gel:
Do not fill the trays, instead place a small drop of the gel on the inner front surface of the tray at the center of each tooth slot. The gel must stay within the confines of the tooth slot, and avoiding the gum area of the tray. Recap the syringe for the next treatment until empty. We recommend you use the gel for the visible surface of the 8 anterior teeth only. The content of each syringe should last at least 4 applications.
- Inserting the Loaded Whitening Trays:
Insert the mouth the whitening trays loaded with the gel. Seat the tray firmly against the teeth.
- Wearing time:
If you never whitened your teeth before, use for 30 minutes to 1 hour the first time and increase the wearing time if there is little or no sensitivity. We recommend avoiding wearing the whitening trays for more than 2 hours per whitening session.
General manufacturers recommendations wearing times are:
For Carbamide Peroxide Bleaching Gels:
10%, 15%, or 16% strength can be used 1 hour once or twice/day.
20-22% strength can be used 30 mins/day. DO NOT EXCEED 1 HOUR.
- After Whitening:
Remove the tray and rinse off your teeth with water, floss and brush away from your teeth any remaining gel. Apply desensitizing gel if your teeth become too sensitive. Follow steps 1 through 4 using desensitizing gel instead.
- Caring for Your Trays and Gel:
Clean your trays with a toothbrush and water, rinse them well, and store the dry trays in the container. Trays and gel should be stored in a cool dry place away from heat and direct sunlight. The gel may be refrigerated to prolong the shelf life, but do not freeze.
