You can keep your teeth healthy throughout your life. These are just a few ways to ensure your teeth remain strong and healthy.
- Fluoride toothpaste is a good option to brush your teeth. Fluoridated water is also recommended.
 - It is important to practice good oral hygiene. Brush your teeth twice daily, floss between your teeth every day, and remove any plaque.
 - Even if your dentures or natural teeth are not present, you should still visit your dentist at least once a year.
 - Stop using tobacco products. Stop smoking.
 - Limit your consumption of alcohol.
 - Diabetes should be controlled. This will lower the chance of developing complications like gum disease. Treatment for gum disease may reduce blood sugar.
 - Ask your doctor if you have dry mouth due to medication. If dry mouth isn’t possible, make sure you drink lots of water and chew sugarless gum.
 - Consult your dentist if you notice an abrupt change in your taste and smell.
 - As a caregiver, help older adults brush and floss their teeth if they aren’t able to do it themselves.
