Did you know that teeth can become permanently ill? You may not have much time to treat dying teeth symptoms once they start.

Why Dead Teeth?

The pulp is the soft tissue that surrounds healthy teeth. The pulp is home to the nerve tissue and blood vessels that keeps the tooth alive. The pulp extends from their crowns to the tips of the roots.

Sometimes, the pulp may become damaged. It can become damaged and unable to heal itself. The tooth is considered dead or unvital if the pulp has died.

There are many ways that your pulp could be injured. Two causes are cracked teeth and deep cavities. Cracked teeth can allow bacteria from your mouth to reach your pulp. The pulp can also be reached by bacteria from deep cavities. Both situations can lead to pulp infection and death.

Signs of dead teeth

Sometimes, pain doesn’t necessarily occur after a tooth is lost. Some people may not feel any pain, and may not even know that their tooth is gone. These asymptomatic, dead teeth should be checked regularly.

A dying or dead tooth could be a sign of:

  • When chewing or biting, the affected tooth feels pain.
  • Toothache that is sudden and uncontrollable
  • Drinking hot or cold beverages can cause hypersensitivity in the affected teeth
  • A decayed tooth may appear discolored or gray.

There are many treatment options

Your pulp will not heal on its own if it becomes infected or dies. The infection that caused the death of the pulp could spread to your bone and other teeth if you don’t get dental treatment. Your jawbone can become infected and a pocket of pus may form. Dead teeth should be treated immediately.

Two main options for treating dead teeth are root canal treatment. Your dentist will recommend which treatment is best for you.

Your dentist might recommend that you have your tooth extracted if it is cracked or severely damaged. Root canal treatment might be possible if your tooth is not in a bad condition.

Keep your teeth healthy

You can do many things to maintain your healthy teeth. It is important to maintain a good oral hygiene regimen. Fluoride toothpaste should be used twice daily to brush your teeth. Fluoride toothpaste strengthens your teeth by repairing gum damage and remineralizing weak enamel. Also, floss at least once per day.

Protect your teeth if you are involved in any sport. A mouthguard is the best way to protect you teeth from injury. Ask your dentist for a custom-fitted mouthguard.

Consult a dentist immediately if you are concerned about the health of your teeth. Your dentist will quickly recommend the best treatment to restore your smile’s health and make you feel great.
