Dentists say that gum disease is when the most severe parts of the body are exposed. To prevent further damage, they should be treated accordingly.

If Left Untreated

Dental Specialists also state that many people lose their teeth because of untreated periodontal disease.

It can however be stopped in its early stages.

  • Here are some of the most common signs and symptoms of periodontal disease.
  • Bleeding Gums
  • Loose Teeth
  • New Spacing between Teeth
  • Bad breath
  • Pus around the Teeth & Gums
  • Receding Gums
  • Red and Puffy Gums
  • Tenderness to Pain

Teeth Nave Pockets

Dentists say they measure between 1 – 3 millimeters. Periodontal pockets are a place where plaque and tartar can form. This is an area that is susceptible to harmful and unhealthy bacteria.

If bacteria isn’t removed, flossed or washed away, gums may become irritated, inflamed and even bleed.

This condition is called gingivitis. A third of a pocket measuring 4 to 5 millimeters can usually be enough to diagnose gingivitis.

Bacteria

Periodontal pockets can become contaminated and lead to bone loss.

Periodontitis refers to the destruction of bone and gum tissue. Periodontitis is when the gum tissue and bone are degraded to a depth greater than 5 millimeters.

Our Rancho Cucamonga Dentist may recommend scaling and root planning (deep cleaning) if periodontal disease becomes severe.

In order to properly clean the teeth below them, it is sometimes necessary to numb any area they can scale.

Following root planning and scaling, follow-up cleaning will be performed to measure the pockets and monitor their progress.
